Have you ever stopped to take the time and think about the ways God has used people and circumstances to bring His message to you?  Well that’s just what I’m doing right now as  I’m typing this blog.  I am thinking how God used a friend and a home project to bring forth this message and post, “HAVE YOU GOT GOD ON YOUR CALLER ID?”

Not too long ago I telephoned a friend and asked  him if he could come by to help me finish a home project I was working on.  We had not seen each other in over a year, but on the day of his arrival it was if time had stood still.  There was no  laspe of time for us.  Our conversation started like it was yesterday, instead of a year gone by.  Right away we both started talking about the goodness of the Lord Jesus.  As our dialogue continued, my friend seem to come out of the blue with this statement, “THE WORST THING TO EVER HAPPEN TO A CHRISTIAN WAS CALLER ID.”  He started laughing as he repeated, “Yea, that’s right, THE WORST THING TO EVER HAPPEN WAS CALLER ID.”  Now I’m laughing because of his contagious laughter and I asked him to explain what he meant.  Then, he shared this story with me.

He told me how he was about to do something that he knew he shouldn’t do – when his cell phone rang.  He checked his caller ID and saw that is was his wife.  He chuckled shaking his head out of embarrassment as he confessed his response.  I’m not answering this.  He knew that if heimage answered there would be questions … questions that might interfere with his plans.  We both are now laughing uncontrollably as I now confess … been there done that.  My friend went on to say what if God was using a person at a particular time and place to get His message across to you.  God could be using that caller to tell you to not to start what you’re about to start or to stop what you are currently doing.  But with Caller ID, we are quick to look and decide if we are going to take the call.

One day while I was mentoring a young man in the faith, The Lord gave me a wonderful visualization.  Little did I know that it would become an amazing revelation into the word of God for the both of us.

It all begin when I asked this young man how his day had gone.  “It was a very frustrating day,” he shared.  He went on to say that he was becoming frustrated with his work even though he knew he shouldn’t be.  That morning he took the matter to Jesus  in prayer and confessed what he was going through.  He told me that his prayer time was just what he needed.  Taking a break from his work and praying gave him a whole new perspective.

What took place after he returned to work on his project was amazing.  He noticed that he could see more clearly.  The initial forty-five emails he had received the night before were no longer a source of  frustration.  He was now able to reduce the sixteen items on his to do list down to ten, then finally to five manageable ones.  And these five points concisely addressed the needs of his clients.

When it came to his scheduled business call with his employer, he noticed that he was more assertive during the conversation and spoke with a new level of confidence.  And to think all this came about through prayer.  Jesus answered this young man’s prayer by giving him a new perspective and level of confidence that can only come from The Lord.  Instead of being stressed, this young man was refreshed!

As I continued to talk with this young man, there was this lingering level of dissatisfaction he had with some his co-workers who were not being responsible on their end.  He perceived their  actions as an impediment to his work.  But I asked him if that was really true… that’s when I received a powerful visualization by the power of the Holy Spirit.  Trust me, it was the Holy Spirit.  I know!  I’m not that smart!  This is what came to me … There is a fine line between pride and confidence, the only difference between the two is that CONFIDENCE travels upward and gets its strength from The Lord Jesus.  PRIDE travels down and inward and gets its strength from self.

I took a piece of paper and drew a diagram of two arrows and asked him what he noticed was different between the two arrows.  He noticed one is pointing up and the other is pointing down.  I then asked, reflecting back on your answered prayer, which arrow would imageyou use to represent  Confidence … the upward arrow … so then the downward arrow represents Pride.  He also noticed as one increases the other decreases.  What an amazing revelation!  “Now, who’s being mentored?” I asked.

The point that I am making is that this young man sought the wisdom that comes from above.  He humbled himself through prayer and reached up towards heaven and took hold of a piece of the Kingdom of God.  What he received in return was Godly confidence.

Just recently I was having a phone conversation with my wife Amy as she was driving to work.  And yes, she had me on speaker phone … safety first!  As we were talking, Amy wanted to know if I had already developed a message for my up coming blog post.  The Lord is never short on giving me messages and He always seems to place a message on my heart at just the right time.  But, He’s also given me a wife, as a helper, and I’ve learned the importances of tapping into her wisdom as often as possible.  So needless to say, I was excited to hear what she had on her mind.  She said she thought I should continue with a finale post on the Standardbearer … Why not give your readers a Biblical example of a man  upholding the standards of God?  Made sense to me.  But then came the hard part, deciding which Biblical example to use.

So what does it look like in practice?  What will you do as a man when all eyes are upon you.  What will you do when no one is there to watch you?  Will the standard remain intact or will it be compromised?  Will you lower the standard to fit in or to satisfy your own desires or to satisfy the desires of those around you?  Think about these questions as you read and study the Book of Daniel with me.
