The apostle Peter (also called Simon) was a disciple of Jesus.  Peter was a fisherman who Jesus called to become a “fisher”of men.  But did you know that Peter failed Jesus miserably?  In Luke 22:33, Peter promised to follow Jesus no matter what the cost and if necessary he would protect Jesus with his own life. 33 But he replied, “Lord, I am ready to go with you to prison and to death.”  But hours later, Peter found himself warming his hands at the fire of Jesus’s enemies.  And moments later, Peter denied that he even knew Jesus to three different people.  The very person Peter promised to follow, even if it meant his own death, was now disowned him.  Click Here for scripture on Peter’s denial.

Peter knew and believed that Jesus had forgiven him because Peter remembered the prayer Jesus prayed when He said, “ 31 “Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift all of you as wheat. 32 But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.”

Even though Peter knew he was forgiven, he could not escape the shame of knowing what he had done.  This shame must have caused Peter to wonder – Am I still usable?  Could Jesus ever trust Peter to bring glory to God after he denied his savior?  CAN JESUS MAKE THE UNUSABLE  USEABLE?

YES!  Christ will still use us even after we failed him?  YES, God is just that good.  Just like Jesus prayed that Peter’s faith would not fail, Jesus is praying that same prayer for us.  If you look at the scriptures Luke 22:31-34 closely, you’ll see that Jesus prayed this prayer even before Peter said what he said.  Hopefully after reading these scriptures, you have grasped how loving God is.

Jesus really had no need to reinstate Peter because Jesus had not disqualified Peter in the first place. Peter disqualified himself — just as many of us do.  Why allow Satan, the accuser of the brethren, to disqualify you because of your sins?  Go to the cross where Jesus die for your sin and mine and confess.  Repent and seek His forgiveness and get right back to God’s business of sharing the gospel of Christ.  Since God has not disqualified you, why do you disqualify yourself?

Fellow brothers and sisters in the Lord please do not frustrate the love and Grace of God by accepting Satan’s lies and deceptions.  Trust The Son Of God for His mercies are new every morning.  Lamentations 3:23

Now for those of you who don’t know the Jesus; I leave you with this encouragement … Peter got to know God up close and personal through His Son Jesus.  You can too, through accepting Jesus as Lord and Savior.  Amen

And now believers, remember forgiveness can not change your past, but it can change your future.

Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever.  Amen.  Jude 1:24-25
