THE HOUSE THAT GOD BUILT

There are sixty-six book in the Bible; all of which are a must read. There is no other book like the Bible in the world for it is the living word of God, yes! It was written by men but they were inspired by God. Scripture has this to say about the word of God:

2 Peter 1:21 For prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but prophets, though human, spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.

2 Timothy 3:16 All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.

To make it simple, the Bible teaches all who read it how to live and have life more abundantly. Part of our daily living involves having a roof over our head; it’s called a house. There is no better house then the house that God has built, starting with the Bible with wisdom at its core.

WHERE DOES WISDOM COME FROM?

Proverbs 9:1-1-12 Wisdom has built her house; she has set up its seven pillars. She has prepared her meat and mixed her wine; she has also set her table. She has sent out her servants, and she calls from the highest point of the city, “Let all who are simple come to my house!” To those who have no sense she says, “Come, eat my food and drink the wine I have mixed Leave your simple ways and you will live; walk in the way of insight.” Whoever corrects a mocker invites insults; whoever rebukes the wicked incurs abuse. Do not rebuke mockers or they will hate you; rebuke the wise and they will love you.  Instruct the wise and they will be wiser still; teach the righteous and they will add to their learning. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. For through wisdom your days will be many, and years will be added to your life. If you are wise, your wisdom will reward you; if you are a mocker, you alone will suffer.

Verse 9 clearly tells us that wisdom comes from God. The choice to receive wisdom is up to each one of us. It begins with the fear of God. Meaning this, to know God is to love Him in the deepest sense. It’s out of this love you tremble at the thought of being disobedient. You repent and turn to His Son Jesus for help to overcome your temptations because you have a life saving knowledge that God is faithful and forgiving.

PROVERBS TELLS US THAT WISDOM CONSIST OF SEVEN PILLARS

Proverbs 8:12-14 “I, wisdom, dwell together with prudence; I possess knowledge and discretion. To fear the Lord is to hate evil; I hate pride and arrogance, evil behavior and perverse speech. Counsel and sound judgment are mine; I have insight, I have power.image

I want to share what these pillars have meant to me based upon my own personal experiences with Jesus working in and through my life. I pray these pillars will aid you as they continue to aid me in my Christian walk. A house consisting of these seven pillars, and the application there of, gives life to all who take heed to them.

WISDOM COMES FROM GOD. IT IS THE PRACTICAL APPLICATION OF KNOWLEDGE. WISDOM PERTAINS TO HOW WE LIVE AND CONDUCT OURSELVES DAILY. WISDOM GOES BEYOND INFORMATION. IT’S KNOWING HOW TO PROPERLY USE IT ONCE YOU HAVE IT. I CONTINUE TO GROW IN WISDOM BECAUSE OF MY PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP WITH JESUS, MY PRAYER LIFE, PERSONAL BIBLE STUDY, CHURCH AND MY FELLOWSHIPPING WITH OTHER CHRISTIANS.

PRUDENCE PRUDENCE AND WISDOM GO HAND AND HAND. PRUDENCE IS USING YOUR COMMON SENSE TO MONITOR YOUR ACTIONS BEFOREHAND. PRUDENCE GIVES US SOUND JUDGEMENT AND THE ABILITY TO DISCIPLINE OURSELF AGAINST SINFUL, IMPULSIVE BEHAVIOR.

KNOWLEDGE AND DISCRETION WISDOM AND PRUDENCE FIND KNOWLEDGE AND DISCRETION FOR THEY RESIDE IN THE SAME HOUSE. THINK OF DISCRETION AS HAVING THE ABILITY TO FORMULATE PLANS BY USING SOUND JUDGEMENT (WISDOM) COUPLED WITH YOUR EXPERIENCE OR EDUCATION TO CARRY THEM OUT. IN OTHER WORDS, YOU TAKE THE TIME TO THINK AHEAD AND CONSIDER THE CONSEQUENCES OR OUTCOME BEFORE YOU TAKE ACTION.

THE FEAR OF GOD THE FEAR OF GOD IS THE BEGINNING OF ALL WISDOM AND THE ACCEPTANCE OF DISCIPLINE FOSTERS GROWTH. THE FEAR OF GOD IS NOT FEARING GOD’S ANGER, BUT HAVING EXPERIENCED HIS UNMERITED GRACE AND MERCY YOU HAVE COME TO THE SAVING KNOWLEDGE OF GOD’S LOVE AND HIS FAITHFULNESS. THIS BRINGS ABOUT YOUR DEEPEST DESIRE IS TO PLEASE GOD. THE THOUGHT OF DOING THE CONTRARY STRIKES FEAR IN YOUR VERY SOUL. YOU HATE WHAT GOD HATES: EVIL, PRIDE AND ARROGANCE.

COUNSEL AND SOUND JUDGEMENT FOR A PERSON TO BE WISE AND OBTAIN SOUND JUDGEMENT HE OR SHE WOULD DO WELL TO SEEK GODLY COUNSEL. ABSOLUTE POWER CORRUPTS ABSOLUTELY. WISDOM LIES IN THE MULTITUDE OF COUNSEL AND IT WOULD BE FOOLISH TO NOT SEEK WISDOM FROM BODY OF CHRIST (OTHER BELIEVERS). SOUND JUDGEMENT PERTAINS TO HOW WE CONDUCT OURSELVES EVERY DAY OF OUR LIVES. IT ENCOMPASSES A RIGHTEOUS LIVING ACCORDING TO THE BIBLE, NOT OUR OWN SELF-RIGHTEOUSNESS.

INSIGHT INSIGHT IN THE DEEPEST SENSE, COMES FROM GOD’S WORD. A DISCIPLINED PRACTICE OF STUDYING OF THE BIBLE, PRAYER AND FELLOWSHIP WITH LIKE MINDED CHRISTIANS WILL GIVE ALL WHO ASK, SEEK AND KNOCK AT GOD’S DOOR REVELATION INTO THE WORD OF GOD. ULTIMATELY BRINGING INSIGHT ABOUT OURSELVES AND THE WORLD WE “ARE IN” BUT NOT TO “BE OF.”

POWER YOU CAN HAVE ALL THE INSIGHT IN THE WORLD, BUT IF YOU DON’T HAVE THE POWER TO ACT ON IT AND USE IT, WHAT GOOD IS IT? WHEN YOU HAVE RECEIVED JESUS AS LORD AND SAVIOR, IT IS HE WHO EMPOWERS EACH ONE OF US TO APPLY THESE PILLARS TO OUR LIVES. JESUS GIVE US THE ABILITY TO ACT UNDER THE INFLUENCE AND AUTHORITY OF GOD’S WORD. JESUS DID NOT LEAVE US COMFORTLESS, HE SENT HIS HOLY SPIRIT TO GIVE US POWER FROM ON HIGH.

I remember the first week that I was on my own as a police officer, it was a very scary time for me. All the weeks and weeks of training at the police academy learning the pillars of police work … studying the New York Penal Law, studying the New York Vehicle and Traffic Violation codes, hours practicing at the shooting range, hours of classroom role plays, hours in the gym practicing defensive tactics. All of this was done in preparation for the day I would go solo. I was given all the tools needed to equipped me as police officer and public servant. I had taken the sworn oath to protect and serve my community with my life. But it wasn’t until I fully took hold of the power and authority I was entrusted with, by New York State and the citizens of my community, that I could perform as I had been trained. This power allowed me to perform with the expertise for which I had been trained. You see all my training, the uniform and equipment, didn’t mean a hill of beans without having a respect for this power. It meant having a command presence, both on and off duty. I am retired now, but I will always be associated with the power and authority I was given as a police officer.

Believe it or not, it’s the same for us as Christians. We’ll always be associated with Jesus. We’ll always be able to call upon the power that equips us to build the houses of our lives with the pillars of wisdom. Proverbs 127:1 A song of ascents. Of Solomon. Unless the LORD builds the house, the builders labor in vain. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain. I encourage you to build your house using these seven pillars if you truly intend to live in the house that God built.
